Talking to as a friend or dating? I dont think its wrong, but I do think its risky considering you are technically a minor until you turn 18. I always dated older guys, but my parents were well aware and completly okay with it. When I was 16 my boyfriend was 25, but I still had the rules of a teenager i.e curfew, no sleepovers, if he came over I couldnt be in a room with the door shut. If you are sexually active with him it could cause alot of trouble for him if you two break up or your parents find out (assuming they dont already know). I have never dated a guy that wasnt my age or older, but there are legal ramifications for it eventhough your almost an adult.

The big question is "do you like / love him?" If the answer is "yes" and you are confident of how you feel in your mind and heart then go for it. Only you can make that decision. There are rules, laws, parents, etc etc. But you are 17!! You have a mind of your own. Do you believe you are a minor or underage person apart from the definition? Do you think you are intelligent enough to make up your own mind? or do you want the law or parents to decide that for you and to lose out on love???? I think there is too much preoccupation with age differences and people lose out on having a great relationship because they have focussed on just one aspect ie age and have totally disregarded other things that are so important to a relationship ie friendship, mental compatability, common interests etc. My advice for a lasting relationship is to make sure he is your "friend" and you need to be insynch wrt emotions, mind, intellect, spirituality and physically too. Age should be the last thing on your mind. There are many disasters with going out with guys your own age. Just because you choose someone of your own age isnt a guarantee that all will be well. I know there will be many who will criticize this comment but having had a bf who is much older and having started very early, I know from first hand experience that age is irrelevant. I didnt give a damn for the law. To me love was more important and I worked around that.

I think the age gab is too big. I'm 24 now and my life was completely different at 17. You're in different stages of life and why can't he find someone his own age..
Don’t let your wounds make you become someone you’re not.

I'll be 16 next month but my boyfriend is 19. I see nothing wrong with older guys as long as you set an age limit for yourself like for me I won't date a guy 4-5 years older than me

Thats not bad at all. If you look at it in the grand scheme of things 6 years isn't too long at all
