Full time student and work?

I finished my first semester and think I did pretty well. I was a full time student taking four classes and my final grades came to be : A, A, A-, and a C+. At the beginning of the year I tried working more hours than I could handle. I was at school Monday, and Wednesday 9am - 2:30pm. On Tuesday from 9am-10am and then work from 11:30 - 8pm. No school at all on Thursday but I was at work from 7am - 3:30pm, and on Friday I was typically at school from 9am - 12:30pm (sometimes until 2:30). I ended up dropping my Tuesday work hours and only had Thursday because the class I got the C- in was stressing me to no end. My other classes I was fine with. After awhile my teacher let up a little bit and I realized I probably could've gone back to working Tuesdays but decided to just keep my schedule the way it was. However, working only 8 hours a week only turns into 60 bucks a week, not really enough to get by.

This upcoming semester I'm taking four classes again but this time it pans out to me being at school Mondays 8am - 4:30pm (fml lol), and Wednesday and Friday from 8am - 1:30pm  I have all day Tuesday and Thursday off. I have three choices.

1. Keep my Thursday only schedule and risk going into debt with the small paycheck BUT with no stress (or very little of it)

2. Keep my current job and work all day Tuesday AND Thursday (7am-3:30pm, so 16 hours a week), make around 100 bucks a week but risk being stressed

3. Keep my current job working only Thursday AND find another job with no specific hours or guarantees (something like retail or whatever where your hours change every day/week) which means nothing is certain about stress levels, work hours, paycheck, ect.

The second job thing is an option because I really don't enjoy my current job much and I've been working there awhile and they won't even so much as consider giving me a raise. I would like to make something other than minimum wage for once in my life. However I don't wanna just up and get a new job completely because it's also kinda my backfall since I'm promised employment there since it's where my mom works (and my step dad).

What should I do? =/

Re: Full time student and work?

Honestly, I would put school first. I see no problem with taking out loans if I need them because interest doesn't start until you graduate. Stress is something you do need to learn to deal with, so working all day Tues/Thurs doesn't seem like a big deal to me considering you don't have class at all on those days.

Yeah I was leaning more toward taking both days anyway, but now the question is, have two jobs or no?

Re: Full time student and work?

If you are worried about not being able to handle the stress from just your current job, why would you get a second job? Having a job that doesn't have a set schedule will make your life much harder than a job you work on the same days and times every week. It's much harder to plan your studying and everything else you have to do when you don't know exactly when you will be working.

Re: Full time student and work?

I'd say absolutely not. You really cannot work full time and be a student full time.
