Animal Issues & Activism Survey

[ Edited ]

EDIT: NOTE: If you do the whole survey chances are you are going to need to split it in half and do on two different posts as you will reach the max character 20,000 post limit

I just put together this really long survey about animal issues and activism etc. Yes I said "How do you feel" and "What do you think" a lot! Yes a few of the questions are more closer to biased statements than questions lol. Though I really did try to keep most of the questions wide open as I do want to hear everyone's opinions on both sides of the topic. Feel free to answer the whole thing, just parts, or only certain questions. Feel free to answer with short answers or long paragraphs if you want!

Re: Animal Issues & Activism Survey

[ Edited ]

Hopefully I won't babble to much in my answers haha. Last night after I posted the survey I was thinking of more questions I should have added but had to tell myself it is more than long enough lol. Anyways...

General:
1. How much do you like animals? I love animals a lot and always have haha.
2. What is your favorite animal? This is hard to answer for me I like a lot of species. Probably elephants, cows, pigs, rats, dogs, and hedgehogs.
3. Do you consider yourself an animal activist? Yes absolutely!
4. Are you for animal welfare or what do you think about animal welfare? I'm one who is for every step so yes I generally support all things that are animal welfare related though I do understand the concerns of animal rights activist and animal liberationists in that once humans think animals are comfortable enough there won't be enough of a push to give them more complete rights or be liberated.
5. Are you for animal rights or what do you think about animal rights? Yes I'm completely for animal rights and this is often the level of animal activism I most often agree with and support.
6. Are you for animal liberation or what do you think about animal rights? Does your opinion vary between violent and non-violent action for animal liberation? Yes I generally still support animal liberation though I'm not going out and doing it myself or anything. I think non-violent action is better so I prefer groups such as the Animal Liberation Front compared to the Animal Rights Militia. I've always liked the saying "All my heroes have FBI files" as I still support them and think the amount animal liberationists are punished or considered terrorists is ridiculous mostly when animal abusers get off with nothing.
7. How much have you actually looked into animal welfare, animal rights, or animal liberation? A lot. I'm not biased either I have looked into all sides trust me.
8. Do you generally think animal activists or veg*ns are crazy, annoying, stupid etc? Generally no though I know some can be especially self-righteous vegans or other people who are constantly in other peoples faces.
9. Do you personally know any other animal activists or veg*ns? Actually not really at least to my own extent of activism which honestly isn't as much as it comes out to be.
10. Have you ever attended a protest, leafleting, or other type of aw, ar, al, event? Unfortunately not yet. I've been past a leafleting when we were visiting D.C. but that is about it.
11. Do you support any specific aw/ar/al groups or organizations if so which ones? I honestly support them all even when there are reasons not to like them or care for them as a whole I see what they are aiming for and what they are attempting to do. Even PETA who is known for killing most of the animals they take in, I defend it by saying they aren't a shelter and things like that though I think PETA's goals are good and I also think PETA has the best capability for animal rights to reach a wide audience of people and spread the word on animal abuse and the goals of animal rights.
12. Even if you are for aw/ar/al are there any specific groups or organizations you specifically choose not to support? Nope. I've always wanted to hold a grudge against the WWF because PETA is against them but just like PETA they have their faults but over all I see the good the do and are trying to do.
13. What do you generally think about animal organization campaigns and advertising tactics? Sex sells? Shocking and gory? Brainwashing kids? Sad eyed dogs and cats with sappy music? I don't see anything wrong with them. In today's society you need to use something like sex or shock or otherwise play on people emotions to get their attention.
14. Do you think there is currently enough laws against animal abuse where you live or do you think there should be more laws and regulations? No I don't think there is enough.
15. Do you think the punishment for people breaking these laws is enough or do you believe it should be harsher or maybe even less? I think the punishments need to be taken more seriously and often need to be more severe mostly since people who abuse animals often end up abusing or killing humans.
16. Have you ever watched any animal abuse videos? If so what kind and how did it effect you? Yes I've watched a lot of animal abuse over many many times some even over again the first times I watched them it would make me emotional but now when I watch them nothing suspires me any more and I just know it is wrong even if they don't gross me out or make me cry.
17. Have you ever read an animal rights book? (If not I would suggest Thanking the Monkey By. Karen Dawn it isn’t in your face, it is an easy read and covers all the basics.) Yes I've read many as I said I would suggest Thanking the Monkey to anyone. I also really enjoyed Free the Animals By. Ingrid Newkirk as it is basically like reading a story because it is a first hand account of how the Animal Liberation Front was started in the states. I've read many others and/or parts of others but they tend to get a little boring.
18. If you are religious do you believe that God put the other species of animals here for us to use in the ways that we currently do? I'm Atheist though I have been told I am going to hell for not eating meat because God wanted me to eat meat and I should start eating meat again etc.

Food:
19. Are you currently pescetarian, vegetarian, vegan etc? If not have you been in the past? If not have you considered being one? If so for how long and for what reasons? I've been vegetarian for 7-8 years now for animal rights purposes. I also like to choose vegan options and still one day might go vegan but just not now.
20. Do you cut back on the amount of meat, animal products you consume or are you selective of the types you consume (local, cage-free, free-range, organic, gmo-free, etc.)? I don't eat meat and my mom generally buys the other products so I don't really have any say, I also really don't think there is much difference anyhow.
21. Have you ever seen videos of animals being killed in slaughterhouses, or kept on dairy and egg farms? Yea many times.
22. How do you feel about using animals for meat or other foods that require the animal to be killed such as gelatin? I hate it I don't think we should kill any animals like that. I do occasionally have gelatin which some people don't consider vegetarian since you have to kill the animal but yea makes me feel bad.
23. How do you feel about using animals for by-products that don’t require the animal to be killed such as dairy, eggs, and honey? I don't think we should do this either. Especially the way we do now and there is no way they can even live better lives unless most people at least cut back on their intake of these products. That being said I still consume quite a lot of dairy and eggs myself though still hope to go vegan one day.
24. Have you ever tried mock meat (Boca, MorningStar, etc) or other veganized food products? Yep a lot of different types of mock meat they are hit or miss but a good amount are pretty tasty. I've also had veganized cheese, marshmallows, candy bars etc.
25. Do you know that the dairy industry supports the veal industry? Yes unfortunately makes me hate myself a little more but still can't make me kick my dairy habit.
26. Would you eat lab-grown meat or at least try it? At this point I don't think I would though I think it is good that they are working on trying to make lab-grown meat as it is better for the animals and the planet.
27. How do you feel about hunting, fishing, and farming for food? I actually give more props to people who kill their own animals for food. As they at least aren't ignorant and really know where their food comes from. I also think the wild animals or animals on smaller farms live much better lives up to that point. Over all I am still against the death of any animal but I think these are better alternatives.
28. How do you feel about eating meat from animals that died of natural causes or were killed by an accident? I still don't think I would do it myself but if someone else wanted to why let it go to waste?
29. Do you think it is okay to eat animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, fish?  No.
30. Have you ever eaten any type of animal besides the usual even animals like deer? Nope. My dad tried to get me to eat deer once before I was vegetarian without telling me what it was but I wouldn't do it.
31. Do you think it is okay to eat animals such as dogs and cats? No but that being said I don't think it is any different than eating cows, pigs, chickens, or fish. So it makes me mad when people here get upset about people else where eating cats and dogs though you also have to understand that else where basically worships cows and such.
32. Would you try human meat? Nope haha though yet again it really is no different from eating any other animal.
33. Have you ever visited a sanctuary for farm animals? No but I would love too.
34. Have you ever volunteered or donated to a sanctuary for farm animals? I'd love to volunteer but I don't know of any close enough I have donated to some though.

Materials:
35. Have you ever watched videos of animals being killed on fur farms? Yes.
36. How do you feel about killing animals just to use their skin (leather, fur, skin) for materials? I think it is completely pointless in today's society.
37. Do you feel differently about animals caught from the wild vs. animals bred and raised on the fur farms? Animals caught from the wild live a better life up until that point but it is still barbaric and unnecessary after that point.
38. How do you feel about using other animals for materials like silk, down, and wool? I don't like it is out dated. I don't think people realize the crap the sheep and birds go through in the process and they are often still sent to slaughter at a young age.
39. Do you currently own any leather, fur, silk, down, wool, or other skin objects? I don't think I personally do. We have two leather couches in our house which I absolutely hate but that wasn't my choice as well as other various smaller things in the house that aren't mine.
40. What do you think about faux materials (fake furs and leathers etc)? I don't really have a problem with them I wouldn't really wear them myself as I think they are still normally tacky. Some people think they still support the actual skin industries in ways just like mock meat but I think that is mostly stupid. Like the only thing I'd probably wear that isn't tacky is synthetic leather shoes but even that I don't have any and normally just stick  with canvas.
41. Did you know there are organizations that collect no longer wanted fur products to use to comfort orphaned wildlife? Yep I think it is a great way to get rid of some old no longer wanted or rotting fur.
42. How do you feel about the annual Canadian seal hunt? I don't like it.
43. What do you think about taxidermy or otherwise using animal parts for artistic purposes? I generally think it is pretty stupid. Though I guess if you are hunting the animals and eating the meat etc you mine as well use the skin too.
44. How do you feel about ivory? I hate it especially since elephants are possibly my favorite animal.

Testing:
45. Have you ever watched videos of animal testingYep.
46. How do you feel about testing on animals for things such as medicine and finding medical cures? I don't like it I think it is ineffective especially with today's technologies most of the time they are over done just so companies don't get sued.
47. How do you feel about testing on animals for things like cosmetics and household products? Pointless. Human's can use common sense don't stick make-up in your eye don't swallow liquid cleaner etc. Don't have to keep putting animals through that crap.
48. How do you feel about animal testing for cigarettes? Probably the worst animal testing that remains as we already know how bad cigarettes are and they don't even have to legally test them on animals but they choose to do so anyway
49. Depending on the species of animal going through the testing would your opinion change? (some of the most common species are mice, rats, fish, chickens, rabbits, cats, dogs, chimps) No I think it is all horrible.
50. Would your opinion change depending if it were wild caught or bred for that purpose? Not really I think both are horrible I guess the wild caught had a better life for a little bit at least.
51. Do you think more animals used in testing when possible should be “retired” to sanctuaries? Of course and I think the companies that put them through it should have to pay for them afterwards too and it would make them think twice about the continued use of animal testing.
52. Do you try and buy products that aren’t tested on animals? I don't do most of the buying of products if I did I would and most the products we use I notice aren't tested on animals and I don't even use things like make-up and stuff.
53. How do you feel about dissection especially in middle/high school? Pointless. I dissected so many animals when I was in school and you don't learn anything from it. I can't even remember all the animals we dissected it was like one animal from each of the main "classes". Including worm, grasshopper, clam, starfish, fish, frog, fetal pig. Just glad I never took anatomy because they had to do cats.
54. How do you feel about vivisection (meaning cutting open the animal while still alive)? I hate it.
55. Did you know mice, rats, birds, and cold-blooded animals aren’t even covered under the Animal Welfare Act meaning there are no regulations that have to be followed when testing on these animals? Yep which is ridiculous.
56. Do you believe results from animal tests are often also the same results for humans? No.
57. Do you think we should test more things on human (with consent) or is that not humane? Sure.
58. If you are for animal testing how is it that these species are similar enough to us you believe they produce positive results for humans but justify that they are different enough from us where it is okay to put them through the tests but not humans? Not for animal testing.
59. What do you think about cloning animals? I don't think it should be done.

Re: Animal Issues & Activism Survey

1. How much do you like animals?  Depends on the animal.
2. What is your favorite animal? Sharks probably. Snakes too. Cheetahs. I have lots of 'favorites'. It's hard to pick just one.
3. Do you consider yourself an animal activist? Partially, yes.
4. Are you for animal welfare or what do you think about animal welfare? Yes.
5. Are you for animal rights or what do you think about animal rights? Yes.
6. Are you for animal liberation or what do you think about animal rights? Does your opinion vary between violent and non-violent action for animal liberation? I'm for liberation of some animals. I think it's ridiculous when people think that even domestic cats and dogs should just be let loose to roam wild. And I don't think bombing schools and labs and shooting scientists is the way to go about liberating animals. Besides, it's pointless. They just replace the staff and replace the animals within a couple weeks.
7. How much have you actually looked into animal welfare, animal rights, or animal liberation? Yes
8. Do you generally think animal activists or veg*ns are crazy, annoying, stupid etc? It depends which ones. PETA nuts are stupid.
9. Do you personally know any other animal activists or veg*ns? A few.
10. Have you ever attended a protest, leafleting, or other type of aw, ar, al, event? No
11. Do you support any specific aw/ar/al groups or organizations if so which ones? I support (financial donations) the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennesee that provides sanctuary for retired female circus elephants, the Orca Project which seeks to improve the welfare of captive orcas and rehab recently captured ones as well as pressure for the release of captive ones, as well as The Canadian Horse Defence Coalition which seeks to ban the slaughter of horses for meat and saves horses from livestock auctions where they've bought for slaughter.
12. Even if you are for aw/ar/al are there any specific groups or organizations you specifically choose not to support? PETA. It's become even more of a joke than it was and I can't understand why anyone supports them given the public knowledge that they kill 99.999% of the animals they 'save' (and not hard-to-adopt-out wild ones like horses, cows, etc. I'm talking cats and dogs) which is even worse than the supposedly 'barbaric' shelters they screetch about.
13. What do you generally think about animal organization campaigns and advertising tactics? Sex sells? Shocking and gory? Brainwashing kids? Sad eyed dogs and cats with sappy music? I think most of it doesn't work. I think focusing constantly on the negatives gives people the idea that nothing is working and so it's pointless to try and hep. I think if they showed more positive ads it would make people more inclined to think their money could make a difference.
14. Do you think there is currently enough laws against animal abuse where you live or do you think there should be more laws and regulations? I think there's enough laws about it, the problem is that the already-existing laws aren't enforced enough.
15. Do you think the punishment for people breaking these laws is enough or do you believe it should be harsher or maybe even less? No, it needs to be longer and enforced more often.
16. Have you ever watched any animal abuse videos? If so what kind and how did it effect you? Yes. It was very sad and made me sick to my stomach for a few hours.
17. Have you ever read an animal rights book? (If not I would suggest Thanking the Monkey By. Karen Dawn it isn’t in your face, it is an easy read and covers all the basics.) No.
18. If you are religious do you believe that God put the other species of animals here for us to use in the ways that we currently do? Not religious.

Food:
19. Are you currently pescetarian, vegetarian, vegan etc? If not have you been in the past? If not have you considered being one? If so for how long and for what reasons? No.
20. Do you cut back on the amount of meat, animal products you consume or are you selective of the types you consume (local, cage-free, free-range, organic, gmo-free, etc.)? I try to cut back on the amount of meat and animal products I eat. I know almost every type of sea food is in dire straights right now so I've completely cut out all sea food from my diet several months ago. I buy free-range eggs. I don't really drink any milk (prefer soy). I buy from a local company for the little bit of milk Hunter drinks and for the yogurt and I try to buy the most natural yogurt (without weird artificial sweeteners like Splenda and Aspartame).
21. Have you ever seen videos of animals being killed in slaughterhouses, or kept on dairy and egg farms? Yes
22. How do you feel about using animals for meat or other foods that require the animal to be killed such as gelatin? I think it's a fact of life. I don't like it, even less to see it, but I don't see it going away any time soon.
23. How do you feel about using animals for by-products that don’t require the animal to be killed such as dairy, eggs, and honey? Same as above.
24. Have you ever tried mock meat (Boca, MorningStar, etc) or other veganized food products? Yes. I eat a lot of veggie products such as veggie burgers, veggie faux-chicken nuggets. They're good. :-)
25. Do you know that the dairy industry supports the veal industry? Yes.
26. Would you eat lab-grown meat or at least try it? Errrmm...hard to say. There's already enough scary stuff going around with the Montsano thing. :-/ I want to be open minded so we could move away from killing animals but lab-grown basically = tons of weird unnatural chemicals that aren't researched long term and will likely be found in 2-3 years to cause cancer or tumors or blindness.
27. How do you feel about hunting, fishing, and farming for food? I go 50/50 on this. Part of me feels it's ok if someone is doing it for food. At the same time, part of me feels annoyed at even food hunters because I feel like "Why do you guys need to go out into the wild and kill one of the few wild animals left in America when you can easily walk down your block and buy what was a captive animal already prepared?" But I also understand why they do it. Wild animals are usually healthier than the hormone-filled captive ones.
28. How do you feel about eating meat from animals that died of natural causes or were killed by an accident? That would be fine I guess.
29. Do you think it is okay to eat animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, fish? I do, so, yeah.
30. Have you ever eaten any type of animal besides the usual even animals like deer? No. I've never had any sort of exotic animal meat and I don't really care to.
31. Do you think it is okay to eat animals such as dogs and cats? No.
32. Would you try human meat? No.
33. Have you ever visited a sanctuary for farm animals? No.
34. Have you ever volunteered or donated to a sanctuary for farm animals? Donated.

Materials:
35. Have you ever watched videos of animals being killed on fur farms? Yes
36. How do you feel about killing animals just to use their skin (leather, fur, skin) for materials? I don't think it should be done purely for vanity items but I wish that they could utilize the skin from slaughterhouses that produce meat. But that skin is usually discarded or left on I think.
37. Do you feel differently about animals caught from the wild vs. animals bred and raised on the fur farms? I don't like either.
38. How do you feel about using other animals for materials like silk, down, and wool? Those aren't bad because they can be produced without killing an animal. Silk is produced from silkworms, a type of insect. Wool is obviously produced from sheep which are just sheared/shaven and not killed for their skin and fur. They're moving away from down bed linens. When I went into a bedding shop almost every pillow was now artifical 'microfiber' or gel, not any sort of feather product.
39. Do you currently own any leather, fur, silk, down, wool, or other skin objects? A very old leather coat. I think that's it. I think maybe down in my old pillows.
40. What do you think about faux materials (fake furs and leathers etc)? I think it's great. It looks the same but is cruelty free.
41. Did you know there are organizations that collect no longer wanted fur products to use to comfort orphaned wildlife? I didn't but that's awesome.
42. How do you feel about the annual Canadian seal hunt? *insert F word here* I'm Canadian and it makes me so embarrassed and ashamed and I *insert F word* hate it. I've signed and passed around so many petitions against it. I think it's beyond ridiculous that we allow it to go on year after year. It's barbaric.
43. What do you think about taxidermy or otherwise using animal parts for artistic purposes? I think it's creepy. Who wants dead animals in their house? Or parts of dead animals?
44. How do you feel about ivory? Stupid and awful. Even if they got it without killing the animals it's not that pretty. What's the aesthetic difference between an elephant's tusk and say, a Texas longhorn cattle's horns? You probably couldn't tell the difference if they were side by side and longhorns are one of the big beef producers in America so why not just use their horns in place of ivory since they're going to be killed anyway?

Re: Animal Issues & Activism Survey

Testing:
45. Have you ever watched videos of animal testing? Yes
46. How do you feel about testing on animals for things such as medicine and finding medical cures? I don't agree with it and I don't see the point. Just because something has 'lungs' and 'blood' doesn't mean it's like us so I don't see how finding out that something poisons a mouse is going to help a fully grown human that weighs far more. And obviously it doesn't even work since many products are passed by the FDA and then later found to be dangerous even after testing.
47. How do you feel about testing on animals for things like cosmetics and household products? Stupid and unnecessary.
48. How do you feel about animal testing for cigarettes? See above.
49. Depending on the species of animal going through the testing would your opinion change? (some of the most common species are mice, rats, fish, chickens, rabbits, cats, dogs, chimps) I think I feel a little more for the more...intelligent animals. Like I feel more for a cat or monkey over a rat/mouse/hamster/bunny/chicken. I shouldn't, but..I do.
50. Would your opinion change depending if it were wild caught or bred for that purpose? I think it's even more horrible to catch wild animals for testing because they're often 'exotic' animals like apes and monkeys that are often endangered.
51. Do you think more animals used in testing when possible should be “retired” to sanctuaries? Yes
52. Do you try and buy products that aren’t tested on animals? Yes
53. How do you feel about dissection especially in middle/high school? I think it's unnecessary, especially in this day and age of amazing computer graphics and the internet. You can easily show diagrams and even pictures of animal insides without resorting to actually killing 20-30 animals in every classroom. Or get parts from a slaughterhouse. In elementary school we got cow eyeballs from a beef slaughterhouse. We didn't get an entire live frog or bat or rat like they often do in the States.
54. How do you feel about vivisection (meaning cutting open the animal while still alive)? No. Just no.
55. Did you know mice, rats, birds, and cold-blooded animals aren’t even covered under the Animal Welfare Act meaning there are no regulations that have to be followed when testing on these animals? Yes
56. Do you believe results from animal tests are often also the same results for humans? No, see previous comment.
57. Do you think we should test more things on human (with consent) or is that not humane? Yes. Humans constantly volunteer for 'drug trials' already for minimal amounts of money (often only $15-$20) so they would absolutely sign up for other types of testing.
58. If you are for animal testing how is it that these species are similar enough to us you believe they produce positive results for humans but justify that they are different enough from us where it is okay to put them through the tests but not humans? Exactly.
59. What do you think about cloning animals? I think it's valuable research because we're destroying so many vital species that we'll need to know how to store the DNA so that we can hopefully bring the species back one day when we're less retarded, such as tigers, pandas, sharks, etc.

Entertainment:
60. Have you seen any sort of video involving animal abuse for our entertainment? Yes
61. How do you feel in general about using animals for our entertainment? It annoys the F out of me. It's the lowest form of amusement and always makes me feel like the people that go see it must have an IQ of about 40. "Yuk Yuk, look at that them there whale jump, yuk yuk!!"
62. Do you try to avoid paying for anything that exploits animals for our entertainment? Yes
63. How do you feel about cock (rooster) fighting or dog fighting? Both stupid, thankfully the first seems rare. Unfortunately the second is not.
64. How do you feel about bullfighting, running of the bulls, or rodeos? I don't agree with it and I'm glad that a lot of Spaniards seem to understand that there's so much more to Spanish culture and history than just bullsports and have even banned bullfighting in some areas of Spain. The only good part of the running of the bulls is when they actually manage to kill some of the idiots running around them. A little bit of payback before they (the bulls) die. Rodeos aren't any better. I went to one once on a visit to Florida and it was boring. It was hot, uncomfortable, I was being eaten alive by red ants and all to watch some redneck spend ten seconds riding on a scared and abused animal like he was cool. Some events are even worse. Like chasing down young lambs or pigs that would not (in the wild) be separated from their mothers and get some fat redneck riding a giant horse chasing them down and roping them.
65. How do you feel about horse riding, horse racing, or dog racing? Cruel. I don't really know a lot about dog racing but I know a lot about horse riding/racing. The animals are purchased for insane amounts of money and even if they 'fulfill' that contract by earning their owners a lot of money, they're dropped after a few years. Many champion horses end up in horse slaughterhouses when they can no longer earn money or be bred for money. There's no loyalty at all.
66. How do you feel about circuses with animals? Would it make a difference between wild animals or companion animals? I don't patronize them and it's widely known that Barnam and Bailey and Ringling Brothers are cruel. They both have dozens of animal cruelty citations. Cirque de Soleil forever! :-D
67. How do you feel about zoos and aquariums? Zoos generally have a scientific purpose and the animals don't have to perform. They do vital research adn conservation and you get what you get when you come in. I've gone to zoos and paid up to $60 to get in and not been able to see a single animal because they were all hiding up to 100 feet away from the viewing areas. That's life. :-) Aquariums too, as long as it's not a performing one like Seaworld/Sealand.
68. How do you feel about street side attractions, road side zoos and circuses, bear wrestling, etc? No. They're not licensed and are usually just more stupid people who've purchased a few exotic animals and drive around with them.
69. How do you feel about sport hunting or big game hunting? Stupid and cruel. Men with tiny testicles and insecure egos trying to look macho by taking out an animal with high powered weaponry from 500+ feet away. Come back to me when you kill a bear with a 2 inch knife or a spear like the Neanderthals did it and I might be impressed.
70. How do you feel about catch and release type fishing? It's better than nothing.
71. How do you feel about using animals as “actors”? Would it make a difference between wild animals or companion animals? They're usually very well kept and cared for so it's alright.
72. What do you think about bestiality (sex with other species of animals)? No. And often cruel and leaves the animals damaged or even dead.
73. Have you ever heard of a crush fetish (can be inanimate objects or dead animals but often involves crushing animals to death for sexual pleasure)? Yes. Gross.

Companions:
74. Do you currently have or have you had any companion animals? In my life I've had 3x cats, 2x rabbits, 8x hamsters, 2x guinea pigs, 2x rats.
75. Do you take your companion animals to vet regularly or at least when it seems needed? Yes
76. Do you think the type of words we use to describe them really matter companion animals vs. pets? Yes. I think 'pet' is very submissive and very much an "something you own" like the animal is a lamp or purse. When someone says companion animal the connotation is much more of a caring relationship.
77. How did you or how would you purchase an animal (adoption, pet store, breeder, etc)? The cats were all adopted out of the newspaper. The first rabbit was from a family friend who raised them for meat. The second rabbit was adopted out of the classifieds from someone who had also adopted him (third hand rabbit! lol). The rodents were a mix of pet store and classifieds.
78. Have you adopted or would you consider adopting an older animal? Yes.
79. Do you understand that buying from pet stores and breeders means more animals in shelters have to be killed? Yes, but some shelters also make it really really hard to adopt. I wanted/tried to adopt a rabbit from the SPCA here first and they told me that I needed like a 20x20 foot hutch for ONE rabbit and that I had to bring it to them to see. I don't drive at all. :-p Thanks for nothing. Off to the pet store I go then!
80. Do you spay/neuter your companion animals or how do you feel about spaying and neutering? I think it's as important as giving food and water. We spayed all the cats. I didn't the bunnies because we only had one at a time so there was no need and the hamsters were kept separate as well. Never had a hamster litter.
81. How do you feel about declawing, tail-docking, ear-cropping, debarking etc? Declawing is cruel and unnecessary. Buy scratching posts and if absolutely necessary get 'soft paws' which are just little rubber/vinyl things that slip on over cat claws and are glued on for a few weeks at a time and then fall off but keep them from scratching. I feel hypocritical but I have to admit I do like docked tails and ear cropping. :-/ Rottweilers and Dobermans are two of my favorite breeds and floppyeared long-tailed Dobs just look like spaniels to me. They lose that iconic image without it. I don't know what debarking is.
82. What do you think about things like shock collars and choke chains? I don't think they're necessary. I think it's lazy ownership. Take your dog to obedience classes, spend more money (on toys to prevent boredom related problems) and time with your dog and it probably wouldn't need easy outs or such domination (choke chains).
83. What do you think about hoarding? I think it's a mental problem. Their heart is often in the right place at the beginning. They take in a few unwanted former-pets so the pets aren't abandoned but it gets out of control and they become what they hated...someone who doesn't take care of their animals because they end up with 80 or 100+ animals and sometimes they even then abandon the entire apartment/house with the animals still there.
84. Have you ever seen videos of puppy mills or other pet store suppliers? Yes
85. What do you think about pure breeds vs. mutts? I don't see it as a controversial issue.
86. What do you think about owning exotic animals as pets? Ridiculous. Glad my province has banned it. It's ridiculous that there's more tigers in US households than in the wild. True fact. I hate that American somehow see it as their right to own oft-endangered animals (such as tigers, leopards, etc). People often end up getting hurt and killed by them. Or the animals have to be killed like that 'exotic animal circus' a couple years back where the owner went nuts, killed himself and released like 20 tigers, bears, etc and every single one was shot.
87. What do you think about people that only keep their pets especially dogs and cats outside? Mean. What's the point of having an animal if you don't spend time with it? Also dangerous. Around here there's raccoons and mountain lions. On the mainland there's bears. In the states you have coyotes, badgers, skunks, raccoons, poisonous snakes. Even deer can kill a cat or dog (look at the youtube video 'deer attacks dog'). My friend's family had a few chickens for eggs and raccoons killed them all.
88. What do you think about owning any type of fish? I think it's alright if the aquarium is large, interactive (lots of plants/natural look) and not overstocked.
89. How do you feel about cats that are indoor/outdoor? We have one cat that is indoor and outdoor. Indoor is better but sometimes he bolts out when we come and go.
90. What do you think about forcing veg*n diets on to companion animals? No. I think it endangers the animal.
91. How do you feel about feeding live animals to pets such as snakes and other reptiles? There's not a need and often it's dangerous. It used to be the thinking that you could feed live rodents to snakes but now we know that even mice and hamsters can actually seriously damage your pet snake with their claws and teeth.
92. What do you think about Breed Specific Legislation (banning or otherwise controlling specific breeds of dogs legally, which today often means pit bull type dogs)? Stupid because the 'bad dog' is always changing. In the 80s it was Dobermans, in the 90s it was Rottweilers, now it's Pittbulls. In another 10 years it'll be another type of dog. And anyway, they aren't the ones that statistically bite the most but you don't see people raging to ban all the small annoying yappy biting dogs like Dachshunds and Cocker Spaniels that statistically bite the most.
93. What do you think about euthanasia? Does the reason (over population, old age, sickness) they are killed or the way (injection, shooting, gassing) they are killed effect your opinion? I think it's a very humane thing to do. We had our eldest cat euthanized. She was around 16 years old and riddled with cancer. I think it should be done with lethal injection by a trained vet because it's a very peaceful way to go and you can be right there with them but ultimately especialy for large animals like companion cattle and horses..being shot with one bullet to the head is a lot nicer than a long trip to the slaughterhouse to be throat slit and strung up.
94. What do you think should be done with stray animals or what should be done to control overpopulation? Punish people who don't neuter and spay their animals. We know that that is the #1 cause of overpopulation. They need to start tracking and fining idiots who think it's ok for their cats (because it's mostly cats) to have 5 or 6 litters.
95. Have you ever visited an animal shelter? Yes
96. Have you ever volunteered or donated to an animal shelter? No

Wild:
97. How do you feel about having an endangered species list, conserving wild animals, rehabilitating endangered species etc? I think it's important to know what species are most at risk so that we can focus conservation efforts on the most dire situations. I think reabilitation is great and has -- in some species -- worked wonders.
98. Do you think we should attempt to bring back extinct species? Depends on the species and how long has passed since it went extinct. Reintroducing a species that's been extinct for 2-3+ centuries would be catostrophic even if you introduced into the area that it was once native in because ecosystems change very quickly and especially over the last hundred years because of human progress. It would be like introducing a non-native species (never a good idea, almost every attempt at this has caused huge, long-term, irreversible problems for people).
99. Have you ever visited or donated to a sanctuary for wild animals? Yes

Afterwards:
100. What did you think about this survey? It was neat.
101. Has the survey made you think of anything you normally wouldn’t or haven’t in the past? Not really.
102. Do you plan on looking more into animal welfare, animal rights, or animal liberation? I always keep my ears and eyes open.
103. This survey has touched on a wide range of topics that being said would you consider supporting certain points even if you don’t consider yourself an animal activist or don’t support other points? Not sure.

Re: Animal Issues & Activism Survey

Oops second part of mine since it reach max characters allowed... and it messed up my font colors but I'm not even going to go back and fix that at least right now haha

Entertainment:
60. Have you seen any sort of video involving animal abuse for our entertainment? Yes. Tyke the circus elephant rampaging and being shot and killed is still the hardest video for me to watch still makes me want to cry.
61. How do you feel in general about using animals for our entertainment? I hate it. This is the one category of animal rights issues that really has no need or any really food reason behind it. Food provides nutrition, materials provide clothing, testing sometimes provides better medicine or cures and things. Entertainment provides nothing but showing that humans are often heartless creatures.
62. Do you try to avoid paying for anything that exploits animals for our entertainment? Yep.
63. How do you feel about cock (rooster) fighting or dog fighting? It is horrible and luckily most people are against it but that pushes it more underground and harder to find.
64. How do you feel about bullfighting, running of the bulls, or rodeos? They are all pointless and bloody and gory.
65. How do you feel about horse riding, horse racing, or dog racing? I don't like horse racing or dog racing or any other form of animal racing at all. Play the lottery or a slot machine etc if you want to gamble. Horse riding depends if the horses are more so your companion animal and you only use positive reinforcement and such for riding I think it is okay.
66. How do you feel about circuses with animals? Would it make a difference between wild animals or companion animals? Circuses with wild animals are basically my number one pet peeve when it comes to animal rights. I just hate it with a passion. Mostly since I love elephants. Everything they do to these animals is horrible. Take them away from their families or from the wild at a young age. Continuously beat them to perform unnatural tricks. Shove them into small trucks to travel around the country. Leaving them chained up at all times. It just needs to stop. Circuses that are strictly human are just as great if not better. I think a few  small dogs acts are okay as long as they are treated well and use positive reinforcements and such.
67. How do you feel about zoos and aquariums? If they are good zoos they are kind of my guilty pleasure. Over all I still think they are wrong and animals shouldn't be kept in captivity so people can pay to see them. I also think the excuse over "rehabilitation" is over used when it comes to zoos. I like seeing the animals but still feel bad about it. I still rarely ever go.
68. How do you feel about street side attractions, road side zoos and circuses, bear wrestling, etc? They are trashy and horrible.
69. How do you feel about sport hunting or big game hunting? I hate it. You really have no heart. People that hunt big game say they do it because they are beautiful etc. What kind of BS is that they are more beautiful out in the wild alive not made into some taxidermy for your mansion.
70. How do you feel about catch and release type fishing? I guess it is better than regular fishing but then still what is the point of even doing it find another hobby.
71. How do you feel about using animals as “actors”? Would it make a difference between wild animals or companion animals? I don't think wild animals should be used as actors no matter what and luckily we are getting away from that with realistic computer animation. I don't think there is anything wrong with using companion animals as long as they are treated right.
72. What do you think about bestiality (sex with other species of animals)? Ehh.... it's stupid.
73. Have you ever heard of a crush fetish (can be inanimate objects or dead animals but often involves crushing animals to death for sexual pleasure)? Yep it is gross.

Companions:
74. Do you currently have or have you had any companion animals? We currently have 1 dog, 2 cats, and my sister has 1 fish. In the past we have had 2 other dogs, 1 other cat, 3 turtles, and many other fish.
75. Do you take your companion animals to vet regularly or at least when it seems needed? Just like we do with ourselves and the doctor we only take them when it seems needed.
76. Do you think the type of words we use to describe them really matter companion animals vs. pets? I don't think it is that big of a deal but I understand where animal activists are trying to make the distinction between those of us who treat our companion animals like family memeber and those people who treat a pet more like an object they own.
77. How did you or how would you purchase an animal (adoption, pet store, breeder, etc)? If I was on my own I would try to adopt or rescue all my animals. We got 1 dog from the shelter, 1 dog from a small local breeder, 1 dog from a neighbor who didn't want him, 2 cats from the shelter, 1 cat from a friend who had barn cats, 1 turtle from the wild, 2 turtles from a store, and all the fish came from pet stores or general stores.
78. Have you adopted or would you consider adopting an older animal? Yes I want to do this so badly when I am older. Young animals always get adopted so much faster when many animals are put down just because they are older and people don't adopt them. They would spend a shorter time with you but then you can go back and adopt even more older animals  more frequently.
79. Do you understand that buying from pet stores and breeders means more animals in shelters have to be killed? Yea which is why I prefer adoption as there  are too many animals to find homes for already we don't need to be breeding any more.
80. Do you spay/neuter your companion animals or how do you feel about spaying and neutering? Of course spaying and neutering is a great thing!
81. How do you feel about declawing, tail-docking, ear-cropping, debarking etc? I think they are all horrible and pointless. The dog we got from a breeder was a Great Dane and we left his ears natural. Our cats still have all their claws naturally. I have been bitten and scratched many times for various reasons but I still think it is wrong to declaw them.
82. What do you think about things like shock collars and choke chains? They are stupid and shouldn't be used.
83. What do you think about hoarding? It is sad but I understand the people are often coming from a good place and meaning but it just gets out of hand.
84. Have you ever seen videos of puppy mills or other pet store suppliers? Yep they are pretty gross.
85. What do you think about pure breeds vs. mutts? I think people focus on pure breeds way too much. I also think for a lot of breeds just their breed causes unnecessary medical conditions and problems so it is actually pretty mean to even keep breeding them. I love mutts just as much as any other dog breed. That being said we had one pure breed great dane from a breeder with his papers and everything, our dachshund I'm pretty sure is pure breed he just doesn''t have papers which doesn't matter, and our other dog more of a mutt and believed to be a german shepard/ husky mix.
86. What do you think about owning exotic animals as pets? I think it is wrong and shouldn't be legal. Though I guess it depends on the animal any big animals like big cats, bears, wolves, and monkeys I think is wrong. Though I myself want a hedgehog but they are considered exotic actually but I don't see a problem with owning them.
87. What do you think about people that only keep their pets especially dogs and cats outside? I think it is pointless and  don't think they should own animals. I live in the country so a lot of people keep dogs chained up outside or have barn cats. There really isn't too many dangers or things but I think just the weather and crap like that is bad enough. Not to mention they are often suffering from health problems.
88. What do you think about owning any type of fish? I don't like it I don't really think there is any appropriate way to keep fish captive. Though the bigger and more natural tank the better I guess. I was also gonna ask this question about birds too because I feel the same way that their is no appropriate way to keep birds captive.
89. How do you feel about cats that are indoor/outdoor? I have no problem with it both of our cats are currently indoor/outdoor cats. That is the way they seem to prefer it. They don't have a cat door (Well only one to get in and out of the garage but not the house) but meow or scratch when they want to come in or out. In the winter they prefer to stay inside. Though they always have food and water both in and outside. There isn't too many dangers as we live in the country and they tend to stay on our large property. They love hunting outside. One of our cats that was an indoor/outdoor cat was also deaf and he eventually disappeared which I feel bad about. When we lived in the city we didn't let them out.
90. What do you think about forcing veg*n diets on to companion animals? I think it is wrong and unnatural. I understand buying pet food is supporting the slaughter industry and is often the gross bits and pieces humans won't eat but nah I just don't like forcing an unnatural diet on them.
91. How do you feel about feeding live animals to pets such as snakes and other reptiles? I just don't think people should own snakes or other reptiles like that. I also just prefer species like mice, rats and other rodents over snakes. Though my boyfriend wants to own a snake.
92. What do you think about Breed Specific Legislation (banning or otherwise controlling specific breeds of dogs legally, which today often means pit bull type dogs)? I think it is stupid. I don't think there are bad breeds just bad owners.
93. What do you think about euthanasia? Does the reason (over population, old age, sickness) they are killed or the way (injection, shooting, gassing) they are killed effect your opinion? I think it is the humane thing. Our first dog we had put to sleep at the vets when he was 12 years old he just couldn't walk or even stand any more. Our great dane we had to put down when he was only 4 which was even harder but he developed bone cancer in his front leg and couldn't stand or walk anymore and the cancer was spreading the vet came to our house to put him to down. I also think it sucks when shelters have to put down for reasons just because of over population but at the same time I think it is necessary and they are better than no-kill shelters. I prefer the humanest way possible which is supposedly injection which is how both my dogs went.
94. What do you think should be done with stray animals or what should be done to control overpopulation? Spaying and neutering is great and I don't really have a problem with humane euthanasia until it gets more under control. Catching animals and finding homes for them if possible. I also think Catch, Spay/Neuter and release programs are a good thing for feral cats right now.
95. Have you ever visited an animal shelter? Yep many times.
96. Have you ever volunteered or donated to an animal shelter? Donated yes and I plan on volunteering soon.

Wild:
97. How do you feel about having an endangered species list, conserving wild animals, rehabilitating endangered species etc? I think having the list is a good thing and not letting those animals to be hunted and such is a good thing. Honestly a lot of people are surprised by this but depending on how endangered an animal is I don't think so much should be put into saving them. If you can successfully restore large numbers in the wild to animals that start to dwindle I think that is fine. Though some of these animals like the Panada I really don't think as much money should be spent into trying to rehabilitate them. Most of the time they can't even get them to have babies successfully and the numbers seem to stay about the same and only in zoos etc. So I don't think so much money should be put into saving them it wouldn't make much of a difference if they died off or not. I don't think they should be killed or hunted in the wild etc or have their habitats destroyed but yea...
98. Do you think we should attempt to bring back extinct species? Nope.
99. Have you ever visited or donated to a sanctuary for wild animals? Not sure if I did I don't really remember.

Afterwards:
100. What did you think about this survey? It's long lol.
101. Has the survey made you think of anything you normally wouldn’t or haven’t in the past? Not really since I'm the one who made it.
102. Do you plan on looking more into animal welfare, animal rights, or animal liberation? Sure haha I already do that a lot though.
103. This survey has touched on a wide range of topics that being said would you consider supporting certain points even if you don’t consider yourself an animal activist or don’t support other points? I do hope more people realize they don't have to be an animal activist or support animal welfare, animal rights, or animal liberation but still be against a certain thing. Every step helps. If you are only against fur but still eat meat that is fine you still can try and help stop the cruelty behind the fur industry. If you don't want to give up meat fully but want to help alleviate the cruelty the animals on factory farms go through by eating less meat or by buying local meat that is great too! I'm one for every little step in the right direction ignore anyone who makes it seem like you have to choose all or nothing because that isn't the way it works,

Re: Animal Issues & Activism Survey

1. How much do you like animals?  I love animals A LOT.
2. What is your favorite animal? Killer whales, elephants, and dogs.
3. Do you consider yourself an animal activist? Depends on how you define activist.
4. Are you for animal welfare or what do you think about animal welfare? Yes. Absolutely.
5. Are you for animal rights or what do you think about animal rights? Yes.
6. Are you for animal liberation or what do you think about animal rights? Does your opinion vary between violent and non-violent action for animal liberation? I believe animals should have the right to live in the environment that is the best for them - which means domestic animals should live with humans, wild animals should remain wild. I don't believe in violent action at all.
7. How much have you actually looked into animal welfare, animal rights, or animal liberation? Tons.
8. Do you generally think animal activists or veg*ns are crazy, annoying, stupid etc? Generally, No. Are there some? Yes. But I think killing for no reason or torturing, or abusing an animal is SIGNIFICANTLY more crazy. And concerning!
9. Do you personally know any other animal activists or veg*ns? Yes, plenty.
10. Have you ever attended a protest, leafleting, or other type of aw, ar, al, event? No
11. Do you support any specific aw/ar/al groups or organizations if so which ones? I foster and help rehabilitate dogs for a foster group near my home.
12. Even if you are for aw/ar/al are there any specific groups or organizations you specifically choose not to support? No.
13. What do you generally think about animal organization campaigns and advertising tactics? Sex sells? Shocking and gory? Brainwashing kids? Sad eyed dogs and cats with sappy music? I think there is a difference between informing people about your cause so they may want to support you, and trying to scare/guilt people into helping your cause.
14. Do you think there is currently enough laws against animal abuse where you live or do you think there should be more laws and regulations? I think the laws on factory farms are DEFINITELY NOT enough, and same with fish farming and other ocean laws.
15. Do you think the punishment for people breaking these laws is enough or do you believe it should be harsher or maybe even less? Definitely needs to be more.
16. Have you ever watched any animal abuse videos? If so what kind and how did it effect you? Yes. They are really sad and make me very happy to be a vegetarian.
17. Have you ever read an animal rights book? (If not I would suggest Thanking the Monkey By. Karen Dawn it isn’t in your face, it is an easy read and covers all the basics.) No I havent.
18. If you are religious do you believe that God put the other species of animals here for us to use in the ways that we currently do? No.

Food:
19. Are you currently pescetarian, vegetarian, vegan etc? If not have you been in the past? If not have you considered being one? If so for how long and for what reasons? I've been vegetarian my whole life, and was vegan for 3 years, and raw for 6 months. I would love to be raw again, but currently lack the discipline and money and time. I eat so little dairy I don't really mind. I went vegan/raw mainly for health reasons, but also for other reasons as well.
20. Do you cut back on the amount of meat, animal products you consume or are you selective of the types you consume (local, cage-free, free-range, organic, gmo-free, etc.)? I eat very very little dairy, and don't eat any animal products other than that.
21. Have you ever seen videos of animals being killed in slaughterhouses, or kept on dairy and egg farms? Yes
22. How do you feel about using animals for meat or other foods that require the animal to be killed such as gelatin? I don't think its right at all.
23. How do you feel about using animals for by-products that don’t require the animal to be killed such as dairy, eggs, and honey? Same as above.
24. Have you ever tried mock meat (Boca, MorningStar, etc) or other veganized food products? Yep, I have. I'm not a huge fan and they weird me out.
25. Do you know that the dairy industry supports the veal industry? Yes.
26. Would you eat lab-grown meat or at least try it? No.
27. How do you feel about hunting, fishing, and farming for food? It just all depends. If you're going to eat all of what you get, that's.... better than the alternatives.
28. How do you feel about eating meat from animals that died of natural causes or were killed by an accident? That's fine.
29. Do you think it is okay to eat animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, fish? I don't think it's right to eat any animals.
30. Have you ever eaten any type of animal besides the usual even animals like deer? No.
31. Do you think it is okay to eat animals such as dogs and cats? I think that's just as okay as it is to eat a cow or pig.
32. Would you try human meat? No.
33. Have you ever visited a sanctuary for farm animals? No.
34. Have you ever volunteered or donated to a sanctuary for farm animals? No.

Materials:
35. Have you ever watched videos of animals being killed on fur farms? Yes
36. How do you feel about killing animals just to use their skin (leather, fur, skin) for materials? I don't think it's right at all.
37. Do you feel differently about animals caught from the wild vs. animals bred and raised on the fur farms? Both are extremely wrong. But I think catching a wild animal just for their fur is even worse than a fur farm.... not that either are right at all.
38. How do you feel about using other animals for materials like silk, down, and wool? i dont think these are too bad.
39. Do you currently own any leather, fur, silk, down, wool, or other skin objects? my shoes have some sort of suede on them
40. What do you think about faux materials (fake furs and leathers etc)? I think it's great. It looks the same but is cruelty free.
41. Did you know there are organizations that collect no longer wanted fur products to use to comfort orphaned wildlife? I didn't but that's awesome.
42. How do you feel about the annual Canadian seal hunt? well its just plain awful i can tell you that!
43. What do you think about taxidermy or otherwise using animal parts for artistic purposes? not a fair reason to kill an animal. if it was your pet and passed away, fair enough i guess.... still weird though.. haha
44. How do you feel about ivory? i dont think its right at ALL.

20. Canadian. Happy. Fortunate. Loved.

Re: Animal Issues & Activism Survey Part 1

General:
1. How much do you like animals? I love animals
2. What is your favorite animal?  dogs and ducks
3. Do you consider yourself an animal activist?  Yep.
4. Are you for animal welfare or what do you think about animal welfare?  I am for animal welfare IF it actually pertains to the welfare of animals, NOT population control (like in animal shelters)
5. Are you for animal rights or what do you think about animal rights?  Yes I am for animals rights.
6. Are you for animal liberation or what do you think about animal rights? Does your opinion vary between violent and non-violent action for animal liberation?  The violence thing varies for me because some things I am more passionate about (like the cruel treatment of chickens on chicken farms) and others that I feel can be of use if done with limitations (like testing for diabetes medication)
7. How much have you actually looked into animal welfare, animal rights, or animal liberation?  I have done a lot of research (since I was 13) and I am very passionate about it.
8. Do you generally think animal activists or veg*ns are crazy, annoying, stupid etc? Uh... No... seeing as I am one.
9. Do you personally know any other animal activists or veg*ns?  Yes I know quite a few.
10. Have you ever attended a protest, leafleting, or other type of aw, ar, al, event? I have attended several A.L.F protests.
11. Do you support any specific aw/ar/al groups or organizations if so which ones? I support the Animal Liberation Front
12. Even if you are for aw/ar/al are there any specific groups or organizations you specifically choose not to support? I don't really like to support PETA, but I agree with some (few) of their ideals.
13. What do you generally think about animal organization campaigns and advertising tactics? Sex sells? Shocking and gory? Brainwashing kids? Sad eyed dogs and cats with sappy music?  I think the truth is effective enough. Show how they really treat chickens before they end up on your plate.... Show a pig slaughter house on a peak day... or hell show how VEAL is made... the truth is **bleep**ing shocking enough.
14. Do you think there is currently enough laws against animal abuse where you live or do you think there should be more laws and regulations?  I think there should be more laws and regulations in my area. Where I live it's perfectly okay to walk outside and shoot an animal and it's **bleep**ing sick.
15. Do you think the punishment for people breaking these laws is enough or do you believe it should be harsher or maybe even less?  The punishment isn't harsh enough. Law enforcement think that since they hurt/killed an animal and not a human then it's not bad or even the same thing. Murder is murder.
16. Have you ever watched any animal abuse videos? If so what kind and how did it effect you?  I have seen a few animal abuse videos and it made me sick... and then very angry.
17. Have you ever read an animal rights book? (If not I would suggest Thanking the Monkey By. Karen Dawn it isn’t in your face, it is an easy read and covers all the basics.)  Yes I have :-) I suggest Animal Liberation by Peter Singer, Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer, Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism: The Belief System That Enable... by Melanie Joy. Just to name a few.
18. If you are religious do you believe that God put the other species of animals here for us to use in the ways that we currently do?  I am an atheist so I don't use religion as an excuse to think I am a superior being over animals.

Food:
19. Are you currently pescetarian, vegetarian, vegan etc? If not have you been in the past? If not have you considered being one? If so for how long and for what reasons?  I have been a vegan for almost 8 years. I became a vegan because the thought of eating animals made me sick.
20. Do you cut back on the amount of meat, animal products you consume or are you selective of the types you consume (local, cage-free, free-range, organic, gmo-free, etc.)? I don't eat any type of animal by-product
21. Have you ever seen videos of animals being killed in slaughterhouses, or kept on dairy and egg farms?  Yes I have.
22. How do you feel about using animals for meat or other foods that require the animal to be killed such as gelatin? I feel it's cruel to kill an animal to use it's bones and skin (that's what gelatin is made of) for **bleep** that isn't even good for you anyway.
23. How do you feel about using animals for by-products that don’t require the animal to be killed such as dairy, eggs, and honey?  I still don't think it is right. Last time I checked baby cows and goats didn't drink human breast milk, so why should we drink theirs? It's kinda sick if you think about it.
24. Have you ever tried mock meat (Boca, MorningStar, etc) or other veganized food products? I have and it's not bad. I personally LOVE Tofu-dogs.
25. Do you know that the dairy industry supports the veal industry? Yes I knew that.
26. Would you eat lab-grown meat or at least try it?  I don't know... I would have to put a lot of thought into that.
27. How do you feel about hunting, fishing, and farming for food?  Hunting and fishing for food is different than for sport. I don't look down upon people who like to hunt wild game to feed their families, but I wouldn't do it.
28. How do you feel about eating meat from animals that died of natural causes or were killed by an accident?  Nope.
29. Do you think it is okay to eat animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, fish?  No I don't.
30. Have you ever eaten any type of animal besides the usual even animals like deer?  I did when I was younger.
31. Do you think it is okay to eat animals such as dogs and cats?  Nope.
32. Would you try human meat?  Hmm... that is something to consider.
33. Have you ever visited a sanctuary for farm animals?  Yes I have. My friend's family owns and runs one.
34. Have you ever volunteered or donated to a sanctuary for farm animals?  Yes I have.

Materials:
35. Have you ever watched videos of animals being killed on fur farms?  Yes
36. How do you feel about killing animals just to use their skin (leather, fur, skin) for materials?  I think it's wrong and cruel.
37. Do you feel differently about animals caught from the wild vs. animals bred and raised on the fur farms?  I think it's both wrong and cruel.
38. How do you feel about using other animals for materials like silk, down, and wool?  I am strongly against wool production.
39. Do you currently own any leather, fur, silk, down, wool, or other skin objects?  No I do not.
40. What do you think about faux materials (fake furs and leathers etc)? As long as it's vegan and cruelty-free then I am all for it.
41. Did you know there are organizations that collect no longer wanted fur products to use to comfort orphaned wildlife?  No I didn't, but that sounds like an awesome thing to look up.
42. How do you feel about the annual Canadian seal hunt?  It's wrong in my book.
43. What do you think about taxidermy or otherwise using animal parts for artistic purposes?  Taxidermy doesn't bother me. The animal is usually already dead (like a deceased pet), but killing an animal just to get it stuffed and mounted is **bleep**ing stupid.
44. How do you feel about ivory? I don't think it's right how the ivory was obtained and I wouldn't purposefully buy anything that was made out of ivory.
