soo... i don't have good communication skills with my father, but i want to tell him that i have a boyfriend! my dad is overprotective and once told me he never wants me to have a boyfriend. but i need to tell him i have one..we've been going out for 2 years and things are getting serious between us..my mom knows him and the relationship between them is great. i wish that is will be the same for my dad, but i doubt it.. any advice???? plzzz

1st you are 19 and already an adult so your dad will just need to learn to get over himself hah but...

Just have a serious talk with him and tell him that you understand he is just trying to be protective of you etc. I don't know if you plan on telling him that you have been dating him for 2 years as I could see it work for or against you depending on how it comes across. Your dad may take that the wrong way that you didn't tell him for so long and become mad or upset. Though you could tell him how much more serious it is and how you know your boyfriend is a great guy etc. You could also reassure him by saying if a guy were to ever hurt you etc that you would tell him or otherwise take care of the situation in a proper manner.

etc etc I know I just said etc a lot lol but I was  trying to get the point across that I'm not trying to lay out the exact conversation or what to say word for word but just touching on some of the points you might want to cover

there is always a chance your dad won't like it still or become mad or upset though I think over time it would get better and if not you are all adults and have to make your own decisions on how  you want to live
