very first depo shot!

I had my first depo provera shot yesterday after being on the Nuva Ring for 5 years. Let's just hope I don't have excessive amounts of bleeding as my body gets used to it. When I first started on the ring, I bled over over 30 days straight! I'm thinking it wont happen to that extent this time since my uterine lining is already so thin from being used to the hormones from the nuva ring.

And I'm hoping that excercising and eating healthy (for the most part!) will be enough to keep weight off, because the only other girl who went on depo that I know gained a lot.

How are you girls doing with depo/how long have you been on it/what have you experienced?

Idk how old you are, but you should know that it can take up to 3 years after the depo shot for you to regain full fertility. I never get the impression that many people understand that.

I'm 22. If doctors weren't adverse to performing the essure procedure on someone my age I'd have already done it already. I have no qualms about not being fertile, whatsoever.

One injection years ago was enough for me. It took 6 months for the symptoms of one shot to wear off. I gained over 10 lbs in just a little over 2 or so weeks (and I was a really skinny girl). I had the worst mood swings in the entire world and I bled for 2 weeks straight for months until the injection wore off.

Re: very first depo shot!

I hate depo. I got the shot in August and have been bleeding since the end of September. I'm still bleeding now. So it's been about 3 months bleeding.

Re: very first depo shot!

I really hope you have a better reaction with it then I did. I got on Depo and it had me on my period everyday for the 6 months I was on it. My period was light, but still you have no idea how many tampons I went through. The only reason I got the second shot after 3 months was because my doctor told me that my periods would either slow down or stop all together. That didn't happen. I don't think my body could handle all the hormones packed in one punch. I had to go on the Pill to regulate my period again until the shot left my system.

Re: very first depo shot!

Oh God! I had two injections of the Depo shot. On my first shot my period lasted about 2 or 3 weeks. Then my second period, I went and got the shot. My period lasted about a week, stopped for a few days then started again and didn't stop for a whole THREE MONTHS! During my two shots, my hair stopped growing, my discharge became thicker, my bowel movements became less frequent (and that still hasn't changed in a year and a half after stopping the injections), and I always felt like I was PMSing. I hated it!

And in the naked light
I saw

Ten thousand people,
maybe more

People talking without
speaking

People hearing without
listening

People writing songs
that voices never share

And no one dared

Disturb the sound of
silence

Re: very first depo shot!

I had my first injection in mid November 2012 (for really painful periods, nothign else) and had a headache 5 mins after it was done for about an hour. I was told it will or won't stop my periods completely as it depends on the person but for me they have completely stopped! (YES!) and 3 weeks after my last due period in December, I was spotting for 10-14 days. It stopped, and now it's started again as I was due on Jan 2nd. (ugh!) I have my second injection in February, and I don't regret it once :smileyhappy:

Re: very first depo shot!

No one can beat my depo experience - I had a period crafted by Satan himself.

I'm not sure if it's common but I have read of it happening to other women, I got the depo shot about a week before I was due to have a period and when I got my period some of the weirdest most awful stuff happened.

It was a light period in terms of blood, but not in terms of thing coming out of my uterus - I'll cut to the chase. I bled (if you can call it that) chunks of flesh. Grey, blobish, rubbery flesh. For 2 days.

I never had depo again and now I'm happily on the birth control implant :smileyhappy:

Re: very first depo shot!

Okay, you take the cake for Depo horror story lol. OMG, I've never heard of that happening. Flesh and blood? How's the implant working for you? I still want to try a long term birth control and I looked into that but I heard one of the side effects is prolonged bleeding. So I was afraid of having the same thing happening that happened with the Depo. You haven't had anything like that?
