My general style: classic, modest, and feminine. I own many dresses, skirts, dressy tops, plain shirts, slacks, jeans, and cardigans. I never show shoulders (no tank-tops), hemlines aren't more than a couple inches above the knee, and no plunging necklines (I'm kind of busty for my smallish figure, so there is usually a smidgen of cleavage, except on higher necklines).

I would go with either a skirt (couple of inches above the knee is fine), dress or black pants and a dressy top (smidgen of cleavage is good). Heels... it depends on how much taller than you he is and make sure they are comfortable. I don't know if you'll be sitting or standing at the show...

Edit: if the show is more older crowd, then you'll probably be sitting but still, I'd go with comfortable and stylish shoes.

What to Wear?

So I'm going on a date this week and its actually...my first date ever. I need some advice on what to wear.

He asked me out last Wednesday, because he received two tickets to the Donny and Marie show at the Pantages theater. We actually met at the beginning of November at a wedding, we share a lot of friends, since he lived down here last year for college. We talked the whole night and there was a total connection between us, and after he dropped me off at my house (he dropped all of my friends off) he told our friend Anka* that he liked me and wanted my number. Since then, we've texted and I've invited him to events in my area that our friends and I were going to, and we've been able to spend some time together. I pretty much thought he would never ask me out, because he is preparing for a 2-year church mission, but he asked me to go to the concert last Wednesday...just me...as in we wouldn't be with our buffer group of friends. Cue the panic and happiness.

I know that this isn't heading toward a steady relationship, I'm not emotionally prepared or ready for a relationship and he is leaving in a couple months and is focused on his mission, not girls.

So, what exactly does this have to do with an outfit? I have no clue what to wear a) because of the venue b) to show that I like him and c) I'm not trying to get into a relationship. Also keep in mind it's in the evening in LA, so it gets pretty cool at night.

Do any of you wonderful girls have some advice for a girl on her first date?

i think i talked to you before :) it's great you have your first date..now dont get ahead of yourself with that relationship thing. what's important is you having a good time!

every girl has her own style but i really think it's important to wear something that will make you feel respected and sexy at the same time. you don't want to show too much chest and legs at the same time (ie- a skirt and a tank top) because that will distract your guy in a way you may not like. jeans are almost always a safe choice if worn with a nice top or a long tank top.. what always helps is a cute new pair of underwear/bra... that always makes me feel sexy even when i'm not heading for bed.

Well I'm not sure what your style is overall.... and I think I understood that you're going to a show at a theater. If you're going to wear a skirt, don't wear a really short one and your top maybe not show a lot of cleavage. A little bit is ok in my opinion because it's sexy but more in a classy way. Same goes for a dress. If you feel more comfortable in pants, just wear a pair of black dressy pants and a nice top. Since I don't know what Donny and Marie is ... I hope all this is at least a bit helpful. You will probably be more dressed up than him but that's ok. Make sure what you're wearing is comfortable too!! You don't want to be on edge or have a million things go through your mind when you should be enjoying each other's company.

Is he driving you? If he is, then you don't really need a jacket even though it gets cool at night.

What you wear can't show whether or not you want a relationship but it CAN show whether or not you want a one night stand. Just because someone dresses nice and classy does not mean they necessarily want a relationship, you know... that's something you don't necessarily need to bring up on the first date. Also since he goes to school far, I don't think you have much to worry about. Just go on your date and enjoy yourself.

Lastly, I'm jealous of your LA weather so enjoy it!!

I've worn heels around him before. I'm just under 5'4", and my heels range from 1"-3". I've worn heels around him before and he is still taller than me. I can't be sure about his height, he must be somewhere about 5'8"-10". I'm seriously horrible at guessing height.

I don't have any flats. Only heels, sneakers, and sandals.

Maybe, I need to go to Buffalo Exchange for a new skirt.

Well, you seem really happy about this date so you should look your best. No girl can go wrong with a casual dress. A nice sweater dress with some nice warm tights to go with it since it will be cool. If you can't get a sweater dress, you can wear a cute cotton long sleeve shirt with a nice pair of jeans. You should also accesorize. A nice necklace or bracelet, nothing too fancy. And a girl can never go wrong with eye liner. It will make your eyes pop and he'll notice. A little bit of lip gloss too. Try to wear your hair down or in a nice sexy/messy ponytail. Make sure to smell extra nice as well. :) Good luck!

Wear something comfortable. The thing about dates is you don't wanna worry to much about how you look, so make sure it's something that is both cute and comfortable-like your favorite casual dress, maybe. Same thing with shoes and hair and makeup. IF you're stressing all night about how you look, you're not goanna pay attention to what's important-having fun with your date! Do something that you know looks great on you, and you don't have to worry about-I like to straighten my hair whenever I'm doing something important, cause straight hair usually behaves. Hope it went well <3
