So lately I've been kind of worried I might have a HPV infection in my mouth. I've only been with one guy sexually and the thing we mainly did was oral, a lot of it, me mainly on him and without protection (I know stupid.) He told me before we got together that he had only been with one girl and that they had used a condom and he had gotten tested by his doctor and was clean.

But starting in June of last year, I got a sore throat that lasted on and off for about a month. I couldn't go to a doctor to get it checked out because my insurance only allows me one visit per year. Eventually it went away and hasn't been back since. But I've noticed some white stuff on the inside of my cheeks, sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't. I have also noticed a red and white patch on an area of my gums near my wisdom tooth. A couple days ago it was there and I looked in the mirror this morning and it was gone. I've had an STD test done by my GYN but it was vaginally and came up clean.

I just went to the dentist a couple months ago and I figured if my hygenist had noticed anything wrong she would of said something. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled a couple weeks from now, and I intend to bring it up. I'm just afraid my doctor won't take me seriously. Do I really have something to worry about or am I just being paranoid...?

Honestly? It sounds like strep throat. You really need to be careful with that kind of thing because if left untreated, strep throat can progress into a more serious illness or even a heart infection. It does not sound like HPV at all because you're not describing warts of any kind. I would absolutely bring it up though...And consider getting different insurance.

Strep throat? I never even thought of that, maybe because I expected it would hurt a lot more and I would be really sick. If I could afford better insurance trust me I would have it already lol. But thanks for the reply!

I can't come up with another illness that would show up as red/white patches in the back of your throat...I mean, if it's more white than red, I suppose it could also be oral thrush, which is a yeast infection in your mouth. Either way, definitely bring it up.

You can get HPV anywhere. I would go to your doctor and have it cultured. (19+ years nurse)
